Greetings everyone, and welcome to this Digital Media Production Workshop mini-series!

What

If you have a message you want to share with others, digital media can be a great tool for communicating both virtually and in person, through presentation slides, videos, and more.

This mini-series, published as a YouTube Playlist, will empower you with basic skills in various technologies, which you will then be able to practice and master over time. Instead of trying to teach you all of these skills in one marathon class, the technologies have been divided into bite-size lessons, presented in a way that builds confidence and doesn’t overwhelm.

The mini-series format allows you to only tune in to lessons that interest you. Don’t care about podcasting? Skip the podcasting lesson!

At the end of the mini-series, we’ll have a live Zoom session where we can discuss any sticking points, and you can get a live demo of any areas where you want more detailed instructions.

When

The first lesson is already published, and one or two new lessons will be released each week throughout February. After all of the lessons are published, we’ll have a live Q&A session on Zoom where we can take a little deeper dive on any areas that need it, as well as giving live demonstrations and screenshare/remote assistance.

How

To get the most out of this event, it is strongly recommended that you create your own mini-project and follow along with the series as it’s published on YouTube, immediately putting the lessons into practice.

If you want to learn blogging, start a blog! If you want to be a podcaster, then publish a podcast! There’s no better way to learn.

The mini-series is divided into the following lessons:

  1. Orientation (MUST WATCH!)
    • Mindset and basic pointers that will help in every lesson that follows
  2. Graphic Design, PowerPoint, and AI Generated Art
    • This one is highly recommended for all, because every project needs graphics!
    • Tools covered: Canva and Midjourney
  3. Writing with AI, Blogging, Online Course Creation and Virtual Community Development
    • This one is also highly recommended for all, because the written word is the bedrock of all other media, whether it’s a well-written script, detailed notes, or just organized bullet points.
    • Tools covered: ChatGPT, WordPress, Moodle, MightyNetworks, Discord
  4. Podcasting, Audio Editing, AI for Voiceovers
    • This lesson is optional, and is geared towards audio-focused projects.
    • Audacity, Red Circle, Eleven Labs
  5. Video Streaming, Recording, and Editing
    • This lesson is optional, focusing on short-form video broadcast.
    • Tools covered: OBS Studio, Zoom, YouTube Live, KdenLive
  6. Monetizing, Collecting Donations, Payment Processing
    • This is somewhat recommended for all, because sustainability in any project requires financial support.
    • Stripe, Paypal, Cash App, WooCommerce
